Spot Removal

Postby grahamt » Fri Dec 17, 2010 5:50 pm

Hi Folks,
Have had to deal with a few spots lately, some identified as 'chain oil' in a mechanical workshop showroom, and other 'unknown' varieties in a rest home.
Have done the recommended treatment: vacuumed both ways, sponges, brushed in, vacuumed both ways, sponges, brushed in,...spot still showing... pre-spray,more sponges, brushed in, vacuumed both ways....whew! but sometimes are still left with a slight mark.
Should I be using the spot cleaner (which I have not used yet) do you think I would get a better result perhaps using it earlier?
I should comment that with some spots and using the above procedure I have had real success ... but not all the time.
Would appreciate your advice.

Regards,
Graham

Graham,

Have you tried the HOST Spot Remover for this type of spot? It can be used with a towel or you can apply a light mist of the Spot Remover and then follow with HOST cleaning as you describe.

Hi Guys,
Thank you to 'naboznyd' and 'Geoff' - really appreciate your advice.
I will try both suggestions. I actually have the HOST spot remover, however I wasn't aware it could be used by lightly spraying on the spot so I'll give it a try and compare the results.
It's really great that forums like this can assist anyone anywhere, and relatively quickly, irrespective of the fact that we live so far apart.
So once again, thank you very much guys, and I'd like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Hi Deborah,
I wondered whethe dogs or cats may be attracted to the smell of the ammonia and urinate on that area? or would the HOST sponges completely remove the ammonia smell? ...
In your experience, is the ammonia & water more effective sometimes than the HOST spot remover or just an alternative?
Appreciate your thoughts.

Graham,

You are right to ask if the animal is attracted to the area after cleaning due to the odor. Animals have a keener sense of smell and they do go back to areas they have "marked".

Another technique that helps is to use our product Odor Exploder. See the post re: Smoke-X for advice on its use.

You can also try a detergent solution of ¼ teaspoon of a clear dish washing liquid mixed with one cup of warm water. This formula works well for spilled wine or chocolate.
